Programme on “Protecting IPR and IP Management for Start-ups

The Institution’s Innovation Council, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, and Internal Quality Assurance Cell, in support of the Post Graduate and Research Department of Commerce, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, organized a one-day online workshop titled “Protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and IP Management for Start-ups” on April 28, 2026.

Dr. P. Mari Selvam, Assistant Professor of Commerce, The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Perungudi Campus, Chennai, delivered a talk on “Key Roles of IPR in Entrepreneurship Development.”

He highlighted the importance of safeguarding innovations, understanding copyrights, trademarks, patents, and how Intellectual Property Rights play a crucial role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Also, he pointed out the pride of Geographical Indication in various products of Tamil Nadu, such as Namakkal Kalchatti (Soapstone Cookware),  Puliyangudi Lemon, Srivilliputhur Palkova (Milk Fudge), Salem Fabric & Silk, Ambasamudram Wood Toys,   Pattamadai Mat, Panruti Jackfruit, Palani Five Divine Substances (Panchamirtham), Dindigul Lock, Kancheepuram Silks, Erode Turmeric, Thanjavur Dolls, Woraiyur Cotton Sarees. Kavindapadi Nattu Sakkarai (Organic Jaggery Powder),    Bhavani Jamakkalam (Carpet), etc.,   More or less 100 students as well as faculty members took part.
