Observance of World Intellectual Property Day

Observance of World Intellectual Property Day

Owing to the observance of World Intellectual Property Day (2026), the Institution’s Innovation Council, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, and Internal Quality Assurance Cell, in association with the Departments of Chemistry, Computer Science, and Physical Education, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, organized a webinar titled “Role of Intellectual Property Rights in the Sports Industry” (with the theme IP & Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate) on April 26, 2026, through the online mode of Google Meet.

Dr. P. Sivakumar, Physical Director, Government Arts College for Women, Salem, was the resource person.

The sports industry is a major global economic force, generating billions of dollars in revenue each year. Intellectual property (IP) is a primary resource for sports organizations, as it protects their logos, brands, slogans, and other valuable assets. Nevertheless, intellectual property protection in the sports sector faces a number of increasing challenges, including the rise of new technologies and innovations.                  Especially, without the knowledge of the producers, Vijay’s Janayagagan Tamil film was leaked through social media. It is one of the offenses, and a multi-crore amount was lost to the producers of that film, he  denoted.

Apart from that, he highlighted the need for IPR to safeguard the jerseys of IPL teams, especially teams like the Chennai Super Kings. In addition, he highlighted the various IPRs in the sports sector, such as trademarks, copyrights, designs, patents, personality rights, etc.

More or less 100 students and faculty members of the College took part in that virtual mode programme.
