On behalf of Standard Club, the Mentor Training Program was held on the premises of Hotel CAG Pride (Galleria Hall, First Floor), New Sidhapudur, Coimbatore, on March 7 and 8, 2024. This program was conducted by the M/s. Bureau of Indian Standards, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, Coimbatore branch office. 

On behalf of Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, Dr. R. Sakunthaladevi, Assistant Professor in Physics and the Coordinator of Standard Club, participated. 

The various topics like overview of BIS activities, concepts of quality and standardization, the significance of enhanced collaboration between the national standards body and academics, objectives and guidelines of standards club, roles and responsibilities of mentors, conducting the activities of standards club, features and use of BIS website and BIS care applications, effective use of BIS portals, use of repository of educational materials from BIS website, guidance of Indian products and services of standard, guidance for self study as post classroom activities, introduction to learn science via standards, group activities on standard writing, conducting quiz competition for mentors for service clubs, etc., were discussed in that two day programmes.  

Dr. Ravindra Naik, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR—Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering—Regional Centre, Coimbatore; Mr. S. Rino John, Scientist D, Bureau of Indian Standards, Kochi, Kerala; and Mr. V. Gobinath, SC-G and Head, BIS Coimbatore Branch Office, were the special invitees. 

Apart from that, a quiz competition related to the standards of products and services was held on that occasion. 53 participants consist of 9 teams (teams “A” to “I”): 6 numbers per team for A to H and 5 numbers for the team “I.”. It is noted that Dr. R. Sakunthaladevi participated in the “A” team.  This “team” got the overall first place. She got a cash prize of Rs. 3000 (three thousand only) for her achievement.
