Periyar University Power Lifting and Weight Lifting Tournament (2019-20) held on 14th September 2019 (Saturday) in the campus of Periyar University, Salem.   Our Trinity College for Women, Namakkal has obtained 3rd place in that tournament.   Nearly 20 Colleges from the districts of Salem, Dharmapuri, Namakkal and Krishnagiri took part in those events.  Our College power lifting and weight lifting players Ms. V. Menaka, III B.A., English and Ms. S. Sumithra, II B.Com., got first place in the Weight Lifting matches.

By virtue of 6th Annual World Tamilar Festival 2020 the event of Global Organization of Tamil Origin Meet (உலகத்தமிழ் வம்சாவளி ஒன்று கூடல் 2020) was held on 10.01.2020 and 11.01.2020 at the venue of Kalaivanar Arangam, 1 Arunachala Steet, Walajah Road, Triplicane, Chennai.   This debate was held on that days in the title of “Tamil Language is Developed by either Homeland Tamilians or Overseas Tamilians (தமிழை அதிகம் வளர்ப்பது தாயகத் தமிழர்களா ? அல்லது அயல் நாட்டு தமிழர்களா ?).  Dr Ve. Ka. Vanasatchi, Leading Tamil Writer, Chennai was the special guest.   On this subject, more or less 100 participants took part in that event from various districts of Tamil Nadu state.   Ms. A. Gokulapriya of I B.A., English have secured 4th place in this contest.  She spoke on the topic of “ Tamil Langauage is developed by Homeland Tamilians” (தமிழை அதிகம் வளர்ப்பது தாயகத்தமிழர்களே).

“Demonstration of Karate”

The Department of Physical Education of our College organized a one day event titled “Demonstration of Karate” on 14.02.2020.   Ms. N. Shakila Banu, Sodakan Karate Centre, 37-B, Periyannan Street, Namakkal was the resource person.  

    One hour of karate burns completely a bit of calories and can help us in upgrading our health.  Karate is also linked to develop our cardiovascular health, stressing the heart and building strength.  Furthermore, regular karate participation will improve our muscle mass, reflexes, and our overall mood. Exercising releases endorphins in the body, and makes we feel good.  There are also a lot of mental benefits to participating in Karate.  Karate will help us to develop our courage, confidence and respect.  Practicing karate also assists us to improve discipline and mental toughness.  These mental benefits can then be used in our regular day-to-day life, she indicated.   

Nearly 100 students took part in that Demonstration of Karate.

·         South India Level Sub Junior, Junior and Senior Men and Women Power Lifting Championship (For the Academic Year 2019-2020) held from 2nd – 5th January 2020 in the campus of Lal Bahadur Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad, Telangana state.  More than 250 players of power lifting from the states of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnakata, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry actively performed in those events.            In this regard, Ms. V. Menaka of III B.A., English of our College has secured Gold Medal (1st Place) in the senior level Power Lifting Championship of women and got silver medal (2nd Place) in the junior level Power Lifting championship of women in 84+ categories.

38th Salem District Level Senior Power Lifting Championship held on 12th January 2020 at the place of Pillukadai, Dadagapatti, Salem city.  This event was conducted by M/s. Mahathma Gandhi Gym, Near Sri Mariamman Temple, VBC Road, Dadagapatti, Salem.

Ms. V. Menaka, III B.A., English of our College have obtained begged borrow or steal first place (Gold Medal) in the 84 plus category level of power lifting game.  Lesser or Greater 20 players partook in those events in the 84 plus category. She is congratulated and greeted.

·        The department of Physical Education of our College organized a one day workshop entitled “Role of Yoga and Meditation in the Empowerment of Women” on 21.02.2020 in our College campus.   Mrs. G. Gnanarathinam, M.Sc., (Yoga), Trainer, Sivanandha Yoga Research Centre, 3/304, Yoga Nagar, Swamy Sivananda Road, Thanakkankulam, Madurai – 625 006 was the resource person. The art of exercising yoga maintains and helps in controlling, an individual’s mind body and control.   Its advantages are more.  These are aids reduce stress, relieves anxiety, develops concentration levels, helps reduce inflammation, can improve cardiac health, helps fight depression, improves quality of life & sleep, improves flexibility and balance, helps increase in strength, improves immunity, etc., she pointed out.    

Mr. P.K. Sengodan, Chairman of the College presided over the workshop.  Er. K. Nallusamy, Secretary, Dr. M.R. Lakshiminarayanan, Principal and Dr. Arasuparameswaran, Director – Academic spoke and highlighted the significance of yoga and meditation in our day-to-day life.  Mrs. R. Navamani, Senate Member, Periyar University/Assistant Professor in Computer Science welcomed the gathering.   Mrs. A. Nithya, Director of Physical Education delivered the vote of thanks.  Mr. N.S. Senthilkumar, Administrative Officer, Dr. M. Sasikala & Mrs. S. Jayamathi, NSS Programme Officers, Dr. R. Savithiri, YRC Programme Officer were present on that workshop.  More than 300 students took part in that yoga workshop.  

Tamil Nadu Amateur Weightlifting Association (70th Men and 34th Women Senior Weightlifting Championships – 2020) held on 29th February 2020 in the venue of SBM School, Tuticorin.   More than 250 players in and around Tamil Nadu state took part.   Ms. V. Menaka of III B.A., English has secured the first place (Got Gold Medal) in the Weightlifting Tournament under 87 Kg category.   Mr. S.D. Ponseelan, President, Tamil Nadu Amateur Weightlifting Association and Mr. D. Navaraj Bulganin Daniel, Honarary Secretary, Tamil Nadu Amateur Weightlifting Association and other officials gave away certificate and winning trophy to her.

“ ISHA – GYM 15th Youth Boys and Girls & 41st Junior Men, 28th Junior Women Weightlifting Championship 2021”

Tamil Nadu Amateur Weightlifting Association and Salem District Amateur Weightlifting Association jointly organized “ ISHA – GYM 15th Youth Boys and Girls & 41st Junior Men, 28th Junior Women Weightlifting Championship 2021” from 02.01.2021 to 03.01.2021 in the venue of Sri Balamurugan Thirumana Mahal, Bye Pass Road, Amani Kondalampatti, Salem.             More than 100 players from various districts took part in that tournament.  Ms. V. Menaka of I Year M.A., English has secured first place in the 87 Kg category in the weightlifting tournament.   Mr D Navaraj Bulganin Daniel, Honorary Secretary and Mr S.D. Ponseelan, President, Tamil Nadu Amateur Weightlifting Association presented a certificate to her.              Ms. V. Menaka is greeted by Mr. P.K. The Salem District Weightlifting Championship (Senior-Men- Women 2021)

The Salem District Weightlifting Championship (Senior-Men- Women 2021) was held in the place of Sri Balamurugan Thirumana Mandapam, Kattur, Kondalampatti, Salem.   This event was organized by Salem Distirt Amaetur Weightlifting Association, Bhagat Singh Gym and Surya Gym, Salem on 07th March 2021.  More than 100 players took part in those competitions from various places of Salem District.  In this subject, the following students of our college enthusiastically participated.

“Tamil Nadu Senior 71st Men and 35th Senior Women Weightlifting Championship –( 2020-21)

Tamil Nadu Amateur Weightlifting Association and Tirunelveli District Amateur Weightlifting Association jointly organized a two day “Tamil Nadu Senior 71st Men and 35th Senior Women Weightlifting Championship –( 2020-21) in the premises of Tirunelveli Dakshina Nadar Sangam College, T.Kallikulam, Radhapuram Taluk, Tirunelveli District on 27th March 2021 and 28th March 2021.  More than 100 players in various districts ot Tamil Nadu have participated in those events.    On this subject, the following students of our College have enthusiastically taken part and secured 2nd place (Silver Medal) in those tournaments.

he Periyar University Inter-Collegiate Taekwondo & Fencing Tournament held in the campus of Periyar University, Salem  on 22nd December 2021.  In this regard, nearly 100 players from 18 Arts and Science Colleges of the Periyar University Regions of Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts took part in that tournament.  Out students Ms. M. Susmi and Ms. G. Monika have obtained third place.

        Namakkal district level Athletics selection process was held in the campus of Selvamm Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Salem Road, Pappinaickenpatti, Namakkal on 4th December 2021.  Mrs. V. Archana, Director of Physical Education was the caretaker of our Institution.  In this regard, the below mentioned students of our College selected and took part in the state level Athletic Tournament, held at Natham, Dindigul District on 08.12.2021 to 11.12.2021

 Ms. V. Menaka, II M.A., English took part in that tournament and she has obtained gold medal and Ms. P. Shanmugapriya, III BCA has got a bronze medal in this tournament.

Powerlifting India

Powerlifting India (Affiliated to International Powerlifting Federation, Asian Powerlifting Federation and Common Wealth Powerlifting Federation) organized a national level senior women’s equipped powerlifting championship (2021-22), held at Mangalore, Karnataka state from 27.04.2022 to 30.04.2022.   In this regard, Ms. V. Menaka of second year M.A.English of our College got second and third prize in that event.

Ms. V. Keerthana Sri of I Year B.Com., and Ms. V. Thirshna of III B.Sc., Chemistry have actively taken part.

Namakkal District Level Physical Fitness Awareness Marathon:-   

Namakkal District Athletic Association (NDAA), Namakkal has organized a district level physical fitness awareness Marathon – 2022 on 29th May 2022 at the premises of Sports Development Authority  of Tamil Nadu, Namakkal.  

       Ms. V. Keerthana Sri of I Year B.Com., and Ms. V. Thirshna of III B.Sc., Chemistry have actively taken part.  

         Mr. A.K. P. Chinraj, Member of Parliament, Namakkal & President of NDAA,  Mr. P. Ramalingam, Member of Legislative Assembly,  Namakkal and Dr. R. Venkatachalapathy, Secretary, NDAA gave the appreciation certificates to them.    

        On this subject, Dr. M.R. Lakshiminarayanan, Principal, Dr. Arasuaparameswaran,  Director – Academic and Mrs. V. Archana, Director of Physical Education conveyed their appreciation to the above said students on 13.06.2022.
