          The Institution’s Innovation Council, in support of the department of Physics, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal conducted a webinar event titled “Emerging trends in optical spectroscopy for early detection of oral cancer” on 19th July 2025.  It was held through the virtual mode of Google Meet. 

          Dr. M. Gohul Kumar, Assistant Professor in Physics, Vivekanandha College of Arts and Science for Women (Autonomous), Elayampalayam, Tiruchengode, Namakkal District, was the resource person. 

          Oral cancer is a main health issue in India as it is one of the most common sorts of cancer affecting a huge population.   The frequent use of tobacco in several forms, like, zarda, mawa, gutkha, kharra, khaini, cigarettes, hookah, bidi etc.,

 are the major reasons for oral cancer.   Due to this, many young and adult Indian populations have been affected, he said. 

          Also, he elucidated the preventive measures for oral cancer.    The faculty members of Physics, Dr. B. Lakshmi, Mrs. B. Kavitha, Dr. R. Sakunthaladevi,  Mrs. V. Kalaivani, Mrs.S. Sandhiya and P. Gowthami along with the students of Physical Sciences took part.
