Celebration of Mahakavi Bharathiar’s Birth Anniversary
The Postgraduate and Research Department of Tamil, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, celebrated the eminent Tamil poet Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathiyar’s 144th birth anniversary on 11th December 2025 in the College premises.
In this regard, Mr. Kai. Periyasamy, Deputy Inspector, Department of School Education (Middle), Namakkal District Chief Educational Officer’s Office, Mohanur Road, Namakkal was the special invitee.
He delivered the topic titled “Bharathi & Classical Tamil” (பாரதியும் பைந்தமிழும்). Bharathiyar is one of the leading Tamil Poets in India. He was a freedom fighter, nationalist, social reformer, teacher, journalist, literary pioneer, etc. He wrote more than hundreds of poems encouraging women’s liberation and freedom of India. Unfortunately, he was killed by an elephant at the Parthasarathy Perumal Temple, Thiruvallikkeni, Chennai, at the age of 39. All Indians are enjoying our freedom in India, but do not remember such great people of India, he said.
Dr. M.R. Lakshiminarayanan, Principal welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest.
The faculty of Tamil, Dr. T.K. Anuradha, Dr. R. Savithri, Mrs. S. Jayamathi, Dr. A. Latha, Dr. B. Vishnupriya, Dr. C. Gobiya, Dr. R.A. Anitha, Mrs. S. Hemalatha, Dr. K. Barathi, Dr. T. Geetha and Mrs. K. Padmavathi as well the students of the College actively participated in that programme
