POCSO Awareness Programme for the Students of Trinity College for Women
The National Service Scheme and Trinity Women’s Forum of Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, with the support of the Police Department of Namakkal District, organised a programme on “Overall Picture of POCSO Act” (போக்சோ சட்டம் குறித்த ஒரு கண்ணோட்டம்) on August 22, 2023, on the College campus. Er. K. Nallusamy, Secretary of the College, inaugurated the programme. Mrs. Aruna Selvaraj, Executive Director, presided over the programme. Dr. M.R. Lakshiminarayanan, Principal, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Arasuparameswaran, Director, Academic, delivered the felicitation address.
Mr. R. Dhanrasu, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Namakkal Range, was the special invitee. The main aim of the POCSO Act is to protect children from sexual harassment. This act was passed by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in 2012. This POCSO act is a punishable offence. A minimum of 7 years imprisonment is given to this POCSO accused. There is no escape from this punishment from higher officials to ordinary people, he denoted.
Mr. K. Sankarapandian, Inspector of Town Police Station, Namakkal, was another resource person. He pointed out the availability of various laws related to women.
Mrs. S. Jayamathi, NSS Programme Officer, Unit 2, and the coordinators of Trinity Women’s Forum, Dr. N. Santhi and Mrs. N. Thangamani, also took part.
More than 300 students benefited from this awareness programme.
